A high standard was set in Cardiff on 22 April with gymnasts from all over Wales competing in an effort to qualify for the British Semi Finals later this year. The CCYC arena looked great with new bleacher seating and the event organisation was excellent - big respect to Maria from CCYC for coordinating this complicated and demanding competition.

All our gymnasts competed brilliantly putting 100% into their routines and the dreaded body preparation section. Alana, Ayla, Sam, Harry, Dan, Tamzin and Eleele gained selection to represent Wales in June, not forgetting Charlotte, Chantel and Bethan who narrowly missed out this year.

PENCOED GTC HOST THE FIRST TUMBLING TOUNAMENT OF 2017

SATURDAY 25 FEB 2017

WELL DONE TO EVERYONE who took part in the Welsh Tumbling Tournament event last weekend. Pencoed claimed Golds, Silvers and Bronzes in most age groups and shone as a club amongst other Welsh clubs.

Our 'non purpose built' facility was an excellent backdrop to the event thanks to the hard work and time that Pencoeds coaches, gymnasts, parents/guardians and volunteers put into equipment moving and competition organising.

Welsh Gymnastics' Carly and CCYC Maria' were welcomed and worked tirelesly alongside Jamie to offer this event to tumblers in South Wales and successes were seen from all participating clubs.

Special thanks to the judges who were most brilliant, patient and professional and without whom none of these competitions would be possible.

TUMBLE TOURNAMENT AT PENCOED SPORTS HALL

SATURDAY 25TH FEBRUARY 2017

THE FIRST TUMBLE TOURNAMENT THIS YEAR IS ALMOST HERE.

PGTC are working hard on competition routines for this event and this will be a challenging competition for all age groups.

WE WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF ANY PARENTS /GUARDIANS WOULD CONSIDER HELPING US HOST THIS EVENT

Our tumblers have also commenced a conditioning programme in preparation for the NDP's in April. Last year the conditioning routine was introduced and made mandatory in order to qualify and as such our tumblers were introduced to the set movements. Some found it more difficult than others but all gymnasts gained the 70% pass rate. This year we are hoping for a repeat of this success but it requires gymnasts to practice individually and frequently.

FUN AND 'MEGA TUMBLING' AT MILTON KEYNES

A great time was had at Milton Keynes 26th July with most of the squad travelling down the night before. A relaxed Saturday evening meal with gymnasts and families plus birthday celebrations for 2 squad members saw everyone happy and calm for the following days competition.

Milton Keynes Gymnastic Centre was awe-inspiring! what a fantastic facility! Clubs from Birmingham, Basingstoke and of course Milton Keynes amongst others were present as well as West Street, Cardiff and ourselves. As expected the standard of tumbling was exceptional and with such young gymnasts it was spellbounding.

Our gymnasts competed with confidence and skill and Jayme, head coach, was extremely proud of their attitude and achievements on what was a long but amazing day. Pencoed GTC had 2 placements with the two Josh's gaining medals, 2nd in the 11 year category and 3rd in 17 category- Well Done Boys.

The gymnastic centre and the standard of the elite tumblers will not be something anyone of us will forget. Well done and congratulations to all gymnasts and families for making it happen.

A-Z REGIONAL COMPETITION DISPLAYS FOR LOCAL CLUBS

The introductory level competitions for local A-Z gymnastic classes in Bridgend County Borough were a massive success with many gymnasts competing for the first time. Gymnasts from Caerau, Maes Yr Haul, Pencoed, Mynydd Cynffig, Ogmore, Brackla classes/clubs all took part aged from 3 yrs to 12 yrs. An excellent display from Jamie and our tumblers was performed and who inspired the competitors shortly before they all received their achievement medals.
A great time was had by all and special thankyou goes to our brilliant judges - Elaine Brown, Miriam Beckinsale, Sarah Humphries, Chris Jones, Francis Nicholson, Jazz King, Emily Scudamore, Josh Beard, also to our top table, Alan Jones, Mel Scudamore and Emily Cooper, all the club coaches, marshels, assistant coaches and not forgetting Katie and our fund raising parents who worked tirelessly on both competitions.

OPEN DAYS AT PENCOED SPORTS HALL

Our very first 'Open Day' took place on Saturday 16th May seeing around 30 youngsters from neighouring classes and clubs attending. An excellent training display was witnessed by the visitors followed by a 'have a go' session. There has been good feedback from the experience and another 'Open Session' will be planned later in the year for other satelite classes/clubs. Thank you to all our gymnasts who supported the initiative by displaying their talents and hard work on the day and showing other young gymnasts what the next step looks and feels like.

NEW EQUIPMENT!

Our newest and most exciting piece of equipment is a 9 metre long 'Tumbl Trak'. The 'Tumbl Trak' is a training tool designed to allow for increased repitition of tumbling and gymnastic skills by decreasing stress on body parts. It allows our gymnasts to learn and perfect new skills and progressions safely. It is sometimes called a Fast Track and all our gymnasts enjoy training on it. We have also been able to purchase a 'pit mat' via a club sponsored tumble and Community Chest grant, which has also been a hit with the gymnasts especially when 'prepping' for double backs.

WEST STREET SUCCESS

Success at West Street last on Sunday 17th May with all gymnasts performing most excellently. The club level gymnasts and the regional level gynnasts brought home medals- an brillian result considering that some of the regional level competitors were Welsh and British standard. Congratulations to all.
